Painting of mickey in the forest. I added the face-down Mickey after taking a picture of an abandoned Deigo Doll (from Dora the Explorer) face down in the back seat of a hot car (foul play?). This painting actually is an example of an image that directed my narrative that I'm writing and painting from. After I realized that Mickey was dead in the forest I wrote it into my story. Then came this one:
Mickey has a funeral in the forest, Snow White style. Both of these works are directly inspired by the imagery from animations I saw as a kid. I like to think of the forest as this kind of memory space where everything I've ever seen or thought, however disparate it may be, hangs out and mingles together. Maybe this narrative is the culmination of ideas, images, characters and forms from my early childhood manifesting itself on canvas.
I luff these new paintins so much i have a stomach ache
